Love ...

Coming across this amazing lettering by Matthew Tapia couldn't have come at a more apropos time. I'm currently reading The Law of Divine Compensation by the awe inspiring Marianne Williamson and in it she talks about how love should be the bottom line for everything. Family, friends, money, career, strangers, neighbors, everything. I for one, firmly believe that. Yes, it can be quite the practice at times in such a complex world, but let's keep practicing every single day!

Don't forget to move your clocks ahead an hour (Spring forward) this Sunday–can you believe it's already time? Happy weekend lovers!
Be the light.

Rifle Paper Co. & Amy Merrick

As I was rummaging through the Rifle Paper Co. (a long time Happenstance favoritelookbook I came across this amazing piece of Anna Bond creativeness and thought it was a nice reminder for our mid-week point. Hope your week's going well and remember to smell ... the roses.

By the way, this is just one of the many beautiful floral pieces that Anna created with Brooklyn-based floral designer, Amy Merrick for the Rifle Paper Co. lookbook. See more here.

Alex Prager ...

Been a long time fan of photographer Alex Prager. Not only do I love how amazingly styled her subjects are, but you really do get a sense that everyone in the shot has a great story to tell. You just want to know more about them.
Last night Prager's new collection 'Face in the Crowd' opened up at M + B Gallery in Los Angeles. The show runs until March 8, 2014. Check it out if you can. And check here for more info. Hope everyone has an amazing week!

Be the first. Be the light.

Pattern ...

Some inspiring paper paintings and sketchbook entries by the talented Jenny Pennywood.

Max Wanger ...

Just a couple of my favorite pics from Max Wanger's print shop. Hot tip* He's having a Black Friday sale with 15% off and free shipping with code "GOBBLE" at checkout. 'Tis after all, the season of giving!

Wall Art ...

These textures, colors, and layered weavings from BrookandLyn are stunning. What an incredible, fun way to bring interest to any wall. I'm thinking these would be so great in a kids room. How much fun would kids have running their hands over these beauties? This one's really pretty too.

Konichiwang ...

"My question has never been how to come up with a good idea. Anyone can have a good idea. What I've always wondered is how did a certain person make their cool idea actually happen."
– Andrew Green, Founder of Konichiwang magazine

And this my friends is how the idea for print mag Konichiwang got started. Founder Andrew Green has conducted several Q&A's with the founders of such businesses as surf and furniture brands, to photographers, non-profit trailblazers and hand-crafted gin makers. Inspiration for anyone and everyone looking to find out how someone got started.
To support printing and distribution costs for the next issue (and if you believe print is not dead like I do!) Andrew has created a Kickstarter campaign to help get this inspiring project funded. He needs to raise $30k by October 24, 2013 so go on, check it out and tell a friend! How can you not want this lovely piece of artwork on your coffee table?
P.S. If you're curious about the name "Konichiwang" read here (scroll down to 'our story').

Jack Spade & Geoff McFetridge ...

Digging these Jack Spade fall '13 lookbook images featuring artist Geoff McFetridge. Was recently at the Jack Spade shop in Venice and it did not disappoint. The space itself was super cute with lots of fun stuff for the dudes. And Geoff? He's one of the most inspirational artists out there and has been a Happenstance fave for quite a while now. Seriously, check him out 'cause he's a champion and he don't stop. Check out the rest of the Jack Spade lookbook here.

Rhona Garvin ...

Here we are at the tail end of summer with school upon us next week and it's blazing outside! It's getting really confusing when I spy hints of halloween everywhere I go these days and I'm sweating up a storm. "Mom, can we go to the beach and then get my ninja costume?" What?!
Anywho, I refuse to let me go of my beloved summer season which is why I was pretty psyched to run into these amazing art works by Rhona Garvin (thanks for the intro B!) Don't you love these? They capture the essence of a leisurely summer so well. Speaking of leisurely, this guy has the right idea. Hope everyone has a great long weekend! Group hug:)

Super Script ...

I'm a sucker for good handlettering. These are no exception. Check out more amazingness on Matthew Tapia's tumblr.

Perfect for Fall ...

The leaves are falling and cool weather has settled in. Plus, it's raining today you guys. I'm loving it right now. I'm also loving these illustrated leaf postcards by Claire Heffer. Kind of perfect for today. Simple and pretty. Hooray for fall.

Blanca Gómez Makes Me Happy ...

I mean technically we're only 1/6 of the way into the new year so we're still in calendar buying mode, right? Regardless, this super cute calendar from Blanca Gómez was just too hard to resist sharing. I absolutely love Blanca's illustrations, they make me happy just looking at them. My favorite month is August with her striped top and rosy cheeks. What's yours? Remember when I first featured Blanca? Wow, so long ago! Check out the rest of Blanca's shop here.

Space of Magic ...

I love seeing the space of a creative person. It's like a sneak peak into where the magic all happens. Alexander Girard working in his studio, circa 1972. Inspiring.

Palm Tree Dreaming ...

"These New York City winters just leave me pining for palm trees, surf spots, and rusted out microbuses parked on the edge of Pacific Ocean cliffs." - Grady McFerrin

Couldn't have said it better myself. Although I'm not quite in NYC, but it has been cold and super rainy in these Southern California parts. Don't you love the movement in the palm tree leaves? Which reminds me ... I think a Palm Springs visit is in order soon.

Want: Pendleton + Michael Leon ...

A while ago I posted about one of my favorite Michael Leon prints we have framed in our house. Well, I just found out that this print is now available on a blanket via a collaboration between Arkitip magazine, Michael Leon, and Pendleton! So naturally I want this too now. Putting it out there universe. Just putting it out there.

Show Stopper ...

A fine example of why show posters can be so cool. The colors are really great. I think this print needs to be for sale Grady.

Great Lakes!

How cool is this? Art director Nicole Meyer has challenged herself to create one logo a day for each of the Minnesota lakes! These here are just a few of the really, really good ones. You should really check out all the ones she's done so far here. Impressive to say the least.

Paris vs. New York ...

How fun are these graphic designs from Parisian Vahram Muratyan? He dedicated an entire blog to the pop culture and iconic differences between New York and Paris. These would look so great framed in a home or even as a gift since the holidays are just around the corner (did I just say that?). You can purchase posters of these great designs here and you can pre-order a book (being published by Penguin in March '12) of the designs here.

Pattern Play ...

Don't these beautifully colored mosaic pieces by artist Astrid Eijkelenboom look neat? Right away they looked like cubes of lipstick, then I decided colored ice cubes. Until I finally settled on colored gum erasers. I love gum erasers–don't know why. And colored one's would be so cool.
