Can someone please explain the need to bedazzle and paint the iconic Birkin? Is the hand-crafted, eternally "it" bag itself not enough anymore? Is one just so bored they have to take it this far?
I couldn't figure out if I was missing something. So I did what any concerned citizen blogger would do, I called Hermés. And they said exactly what I thought. They have nothing to do with these after market designs. They specialize in custom colored leathers and such "but not swipes of paint or bedazzling (enter smirky laughter here)."

THAT, is just wrong. The graffiti on the LV bags was bad enough but this is insulting. But then, maybe it's a statement:
against fakes?
against snobs?
against toddlers w/markers?
haha! i love that you called.
oy. it makes me cringe. i love that you called too! go git em:)
You rule.
I love your research and dedication to this topic. These people are clearly insane.
I think small, personal alterations could actually increase the cuteness of a bag. The creativity has to be done correctly though... with taste. These bags shown here are really awful.
That has to be a fake... that thing on a birkin is a terrible sin!
Elie: I thought maybe they were fakes too but then these were taken in Milan during fashion week. Taking a fake to fashion week is like taking chicken soup to a chili cook off. You'd be called out in two seconds by the experts.
Don't you have to be on a waiting list to get these?? Leave the poor (beautiful) bag be!
Oh my goodness, that's like burning $10,000. No, I don't get it!?!
Why would you do something like this??? If you have that much money to just toss away, why don't you donate it to charity and do soemthing good??
