Maybe you've heard, maybe you haven't but the bike culture in Amsterdam is intense. Wonderfully intense. There's a Dutch Cycling Embassy for crying out loud. I knew of this great bike culture, but seeing it was a whole other experience. People don't just take a stroll on their bikes, they bike with the eye of the tiger. Everyone–men, women, young, old, rich, poor ... bikes.
Case in point. Will you look at this bicycle park? It was two (maybe three) whole levels of packed in bicycles. All I could think was how does one find their bike? Especially when it gets dark.
The sight of a bike parked outside a store was very common. I happened to really like this bright orange one.
It was also not unusual to see moms cruising along with a few children in the fronts of these CargoBikes. I called it the "bucket o' kids." I think I want one.

Those cargo bikes are really popular in Germany too!

Wow, what an interesting post! I love that bikes are so popular over there but I agree, how on earth would they be able to find their bike in the bikepark??

I was in Amsterdam about 2 years ago and was so impressed with the biking infrastructure as well. I think we could lear a lot from that here state side.
That's so awesome! I danced in Utah for a summer and they have a huge bike culture, not as big as Amsterdam, but they did have free bike valets. I thought that was fun.
We hit the pavement for some serious bike riding while there too. Nothing quite like it!
I love this mode of transportation! Such a wonderful way to really see a city and get around.
H, there is a woman in LB that has a CargoBike. I see her on 2nd Street all the time. She looks like one hip mama on that bike. Leave it to the Europeans to create a stylish way to "bucket" the kids around. ;)
This is great! I wish that my city would get behind bike culture.
I am dying to go to Amsterdam... mostly for the bike riding. This looks so fun... and you totally need a CargoBike!
