After Paris we hopped a train and ventured south a bit to Lyon for a couple of days to visit the Cliché dudes at their offices. Right when they picked us up they said that if there's one place we had to see in our short visit to Lyon it was the Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière. They were right, it was beautiful and quite serene. As you can see the weather in Lyon was treating us just as well as Paris did.
This tree-lined area with benches was just off to the side of the Basilica and had the most amazing view just beyond where everyone is standing. And this is what you saw ... amazing.
More photos around the Basilica.
And this particular spot blew my mind. Not very far from the Basilica are the ruins of a Roman theatre, called the Ancient Theatre of Fourvière. Known to be built around 15 BC, this amphitheater now houses a museum and outdoor concerts and operas throughout the summer. How amazing would it be to see a show here?

STUNNING! That coliseum reminds me of being in Rome! I can't get over that view from the top! There is a feeling you get when you explore a new city for the first time. Almost like you're Columbus or something. Seeing something new with your eyes in person, there's nothing like it.
these are so beautiful AND how rad to see a show at that ancient theater?!
Wow that view over the rooftops is stunning.
A few years ago I watched Aida in the Milan Roman amphitheatre. It was an extraordinary experience. One to put on your list!
The Basilica is so, so beautiful, and that view! I could certainly sit there all day and just stare out into the horizon. A quiet and reflective way to spend the day.
