When Two Worlds Collide ...

Skateboarding tends to be synonymous with rebellion and being against the establishment but this particular photo begs to differ. Look at his form, not so different from that of a dancer. Both have to be light on their feet and able to move with precision. The skatepark itself is an architectural marvel with all of its perfect curves and hips, with just the right amount of flat ground. Skateboarding is actually really fun and interesting to watch–the things they do are really amazing. It would be nice if all communities had nice looking, well designed skateparks like this one.

I love skateboarding & it's artistic beauty and growing up with it I now owe the industry my design/art career but when my 14 year old neighbor does non stop kick flips my ears can't take it and I end up shooing him away!! (always with an apolgoy and telling him how much I admire the sport.......)

Is that David Bowie on his griptape?

It's kind of dark to notice, but I think it's Marilyn Monroe.

This photograph is gorgeous, especially in black and white. I never really saw much skateboarding on the east coast. And I really didn't see much here either until I went to Venice Beach. Watching those skateboarders is amazing.

That is totally the classic Karate Kid pose. :)

It's totally true. Dance is all about intent. That's why most dance teachers call it movement rather than dance as to allow more interpretations on the art form.

At one of my classes in Parsons we watched the movie Dogtown and though I wasn't very interested in skateboarding I thought it was so fascinating!

So much out in California! It's all really a culture in itself!
