Fight The Oil! ...

Sometimes we don't realize just how much power we have. My hairstylist Cat was telling me that their salon was collecting all hair clippings that are swept up each day and donating them to an organization called Matter Of Trust. Why? Because hair is an efficient and abundant material for collecting and containing not just the oil on our heads, but petroleum spills! Matter Of Trust stuffs the hair into recycled nylons and covers them in mesh to make booms and this brilliant contraption soaks up oil like you've never seen. These are being sent as we speak to the awful spill along the Gulf Coast. It's great, you can watch the process here. Groomers are doing this too! Isn't that amazing?

Oh my goodness! I had no clue. It kind of makes me want to chop off my hair. It's so horrible what's going on I have a hard time even listening to the news because it's so grim. But this makes me feel better knowing that something can be done. Thanks for sharing!

wow, I saw a story years ago when I was a hairdresser, where a guy invented this, it was such an easy idea hair in tights and it sucks up the oil. I am so glad that they are actually using this, I had no idea! thanks for sharing! this great story!

That is inspiring...I'm going to pass it on to my hair dresser next week when I have my cut.

I had NO idea. I'm going to tell my roommate (a hair stylist) about this. Maybe she can get her salon and the ones she's worked at in the past to join in.

Elizabeth, Donkey (out cat), and I have a bag that we have been collecting our hair in. It is such a great idea.
