New Elva Fields! ...

Elva Fields quickly became a favorite of mine when I discovered her via Ms. Katie Armour. Her pieces are amazing and make me so happy. The only bummer is her pieces sell out quick! So I thought I'd let you know that they just announced these new pieces (and more) for summer this morning. These would look great with anything, but especially a swimsuit or a t-shirt and jeans (my uniform). Treat yourselves ladies, it's summer!

Jen's More Than Okay ...

I don't usually use the word "fierce" but I think I can make an exception here. I think this just might be one of my favorite photos of Jen (can't help it, feel like I know her). She hardly seems the downtrodden ex the media loves to make her out to be in this one. She looks incredibly beautiful and entirely capable. And that hair!

Permanents ...

Have you ever had a perm? I did when I was five–I looked like a cross between Harpo Marx and either of these guys. Needless to say I used to flinch when I'd hear the word "perm." I remember my friend Juliet got a perm a few summers ago that looked really great and that was the start of my coming around to accepting perms again. And then I saw these photos in W and think I've now come full circle. How cute does this girl look?

P.S. Be sure to hop on over to the Yellow Brick Blog today and check out my "Summer Essentials" I had the pleasure of sharing with Lyndsy!

Go Go Goyard ...

Have I told you how hard it is to find a good photo of the Goyard St. Louis tote? You can find some, but they're not well shot or shot tabloid style on a celebrity. In any case, I love this shot of the Goyard wallet. Complete with crown, stripes and initials. Which brings me to my question ...

Would you leave the item blank or would you have the extras added? I didn't think I was into the stripes until I saw a friend's a few weeks ago (you know who you are;) and I loved it! As for initials, not sure if I'd get my own, maybe my kid's? Or none at all? What would you do?

For the record, I do not have a Goyard of my own. This post is what I would deem dreaming or manifesting. Depending on what kind of mood you're in. I for one am in a good mood;)

I'll Meet You There ...

Just read about the Soho House in California Style magazine. It's a new restaurant in West Hollywood set at the top of a 14 story building. I can't get over how amazing the olive trees and wooden lanterns look together. Such an inviting atmosphere. I imagine it looks great at night too with the trees lit up. The different chairs at different tables is kind of charming too.

Speaking Of ...

Sofia Coppola & Thomas Mars of Phoenix

Even though they're not married Sofia and Thomas still fit the bill of significant others who work together–especially since they just had their second child. Thomas and his band Phoenix have collaborated with Sofia (once again) on her latest film that everyone is excited about, Somewhere. I think working together and doing a creative collaboration might even be a bit tougher. So kudos to these two.

P.S. If you're in the mood click here to see what it's like when Phoenix and Snooki collide. I'm warning you, it kind of hurts.

Husband + Wife Team ...

Loving these photos from husband/wife team Williams + Hirakawa. I think working with your significant other is both risky and admirable. But I think the latter prevails when you've got as much talent as these two.

Eric and I worked pretty closely when he was editor over at Skateboarding and I was doing ad sales for the magazine. We were a bit removed, but would still have to cross paths on various work issues (no pun intended). I think we did a pretty good job at putting business first. In fact, no one even knew we were even dating until we were actually engaged. We were pretty stealth.

But what about you? Could you work with your significant other?

Make Your Bed ...

Have I ever mentioned how I cannot leave the house in the morning unless my bed is made? I mean sometimes I simply don't have time, but seriously 99.9% of the time it's made. I read somewhere once that making your bed before leaving the house sets the tone for the day. I think there's some truth to that.

Speaking of beds, I've had four post beds on the brain lately. And I'm loving the simple, clean lines of this one from The Parker. I couldn't find it on the Jonathan Adler site, does anyone know where it can be found? Mackenzie?:)

Hope everyone had a great first weekend of summer!

Sounds Of Summer ...

Have I told you about the little community pool at the end of our street? I'm gonna guess it was built in the 50's since that's when most of the little cottage houses in our neighborhood were built. This pool is so great because it still maintains the charm of a simpler life. It has a couple of lifeguard perches and the distinct smell of chlorine, which I know is not great, but is so synonymous with summer to me.

But what I love best are the sounds the pool brings. Kids ride their bikes there with towels draped over their shoulders, screaming back and forth to each other. Tweens walk past our house in their "cool" groups chatting about who's gonna be at the pool (I hear everything–it's the cutest). And even the teeny kids pitter-patter by with their bare feet, a swimsuit and goggles excited for their swim lessons. And of course the squeals from the pool, reckless splashing and whistle blowing by the lifeguards brings it all home. It's summertime!

Hope everyone has a great first weekend of summer! Here are a few links I wanted to share ...

So excited for this! ...

You really don't know who just might be reading your blog. Heather didn't ...

Better than reality TV. Follow Kendall as she shares the launch of her line ...

As a mom, I totally related to this:) Don't hold back ...

Really? ...

"Hey try this branch over your forehead. Now let's throw a bird on there and see how it looks."

Let's just say that if someone suggested this to me, there would've been some serious eye rolling. But um, not here. She looks absolutely, pretty and sun-kissed. With branch and bird to boot!

Naturally ...

Natural. Nature.

Emersonmade Apparel ...

Just when I thought there couldn't be more to love over at Emersonmade, they go and make the cutest apparel pieces. The official launch date is August 10th, but you can email ahead of time to reserve limited quantity items. I'm seriously in love with this tie top and the skirts with pockets. The tweed jacket keeps staring at me too.

True Chocolate ...

I'm a huge fan of the chocolate. And an even bigger fan of chocolate with excellent packaging like the Mast Brothers Chocolate we all know and love. The Selby recently did a photo essay of the brother's "bean to bar" process from their Brooklyn chocolate factory and it does not disappoint.
Love the gold bars and stickers. Makes me want to keep them in a stack and tie a striped grosgrain ribbon around them.
The wonderfully, hand crafted end result.

And while we're on the subject of sweets ... congratulations team USA! The first group win since 1930, you're already winning guys! Golden follow through Donovan, absolutely golden.

Sign Me Up ...

Proper lounging on a beach. Complete with striped towel, magazine and multi-colored beach ball. I could definitely handle this. Loving that wooden lounger and cushions too.

Easy, Breezy Transformation ...

Wow, what a difference dark roots and an up-do can make. Love her easy transformation. Both looks totally work on her.

Jackie's Camera ...

This photo of Jackie is inspiring me to break out my camera more often this summer. Or maybe I should say, not forget it as often. She looks so patriotic against the white cushions and blue water, doesn't she? I wonder what she took a photo of.

Do you see her Kelly bag in the bottom, left corner there?

W To The Rescue ...

Received my copy of W on Saturday and I must say Ms. Mendes is stunning in this issue. I also fell in love with this photo below shot by Terry Richardson. Both models are wearing the cutest Miu Miu outfits. I think Alex White did a great job styling this one. Love the fun color-blocking.

It's Officially Summer! ...

Good summer morning to you! Wouldn't it be great to meet here every morning for coffee and a chat? I don't know about you but I'm looking forward to some lazy, hazy summer days that include plenty of beach time and much BBQ-ing. Let the summer begin!

Did you have a good weekend? It was such a beautiful weekend here to usher in the summer season. We spent father's day at my parents house where my mom bought all the dads new beach chairs for father's day. I thought that was cute and so apropos!

Happy Dad's Weekend ...

Love that both Eric and my dad surf and sometimes together.
Photo: Ed Fladung

What can I say? I have the best dad and so do my kids. My dad taught me so many things that I attest to my occasional successes in life. As a kid he used to always tell me "nothing in life is guaranteed." I used to hate it! It sounded so pessimistic, but of course now I get it. He also told me never to cry at work (I wonder if he knows Kelly Cutrone?). And when I'd get slide tackled in soccer, my mom would practically waive for an ambulance while my dad would help me up, brush me off and nudge me back in the game.

As for my husband Eric, I am so happy that P has a father like him to give her the proper guidelines when it comes to her future choices in relationships (much like I did). And I'm so happy that K has such incredible role models in both Eric and my dad in regards to being a responsible, loving, young man. We are truly blessed to have these men in our lives!

I hope everyone has a great weekend! We are on the brink of summer, can you believe it?! Group hug:)

Channeling DMC ...

At first glance her glasses reminded of DMC's. Love the idea of a larger, square eyeglass! Super stylish and refreshingly different. Yeah, and her eyes are kind of amazing too.

High Five's! ...

I think we paced every square inch of our living room last night watching this game come down to the final seconds! Growing up I went to my fair share of Laker games and had the privilege of seeing the old school Laker/Celtics rivalry between Magic and Bird. So to watch the Lakers win this new school Laker/Celtics rivalry was precious indeed. High five's to Fisher and Kobe for their fifth championship and a sweet sixteen to the Laker franchise for their sixteenth NBA championship. Yeah Lakers!!!!!

Cyrus ...

Not sure when, but I will be seeing this. Cyrus comes out tomorrow and it looks so funny. In brief, a divorced man (John C. Reilly) finds the woman of his dreams (Marisa Tomei), but her awkward son (Jonah Hill) isn't having it. Just looking at Jonah's expressions makes me laugh–love him. The HuffPost gave it a pretty good review.

Bonus: Catherine Keener's in it too and everyone's current fave song by ES & TMZ is in the trailer here.

Steven Alan Swim ...

Just stumbled upon this cute swimsuit over at Steven Alan. Love the print. Brown and orange aren't exactly the colors you'd expect for a summertime swimsuit ... which is why I like it:)

Erin Fetherston ...

Resort shows galore right now! Just checked out Erin Fetherston's resort 2011 (felt strange typing that out right now) collection and these are a few dresses and pant outfits that caught my eye. Loving those black platforms too. To see all of the looks go here.

Body Language ...

It's amazing what you can read from just a couple of arms hanging out at a buffet table. He looks like he's trying to be slick and she looks like she's playing hard to get. Do you see it?

Best Business ...

Handmade bobby pin. Vintage polka dot dress.

Good news for you etsy shop owners! According to Inc. magazine now's the time to either be a seller of handmade or vintage goods online. This particular category of sellers is amongst a list of the best businesses to start right now. Online sales of independent merchants, such as yourselves, have grown at an annual 6.6% in the past five years. Keep on keepin' on people!

Other online selling outlets mentioned were eBay, RubyLane, and Supermarket. The latter two of which I had never heard of before. But Supermarket looks pretty cool.

A Different Stripe ...

Just a couple of cute girls hanging out and drinking Red Stripe. Love it.

Stella ...

I've seen many photos of Stella McCartney, but this one captures clearly her inherited looks from Paul and Linda. I see Linda so much here in her eyes, don't you? Stella definitely has easy, breezy style and I've always loved her story. Yes, doors were opened for her but she had to decide to walk through them and forge a name for herself.

Did you ever see the episode of Iconoclasts with Stella and Ed Ruscha? It was a great peak into her world and personality (as well as Ed's). Very inspiring.

Meet You There ...

You, me and three of our closest friends.

That Buzzing Hum & Cupcakes (again) ...

The theme of our weekend was the buzzing hum of the horns at World Cup and cupcakes. I feel like that's all I heard and ate all weekend! At first the buzzing is like nails on a chalkboard, but then somehow it vanishes into the background (or does it?). And man, I am cupcaked out! Did I really just say that? I don't think I've ever been more excited to be back on our boring, healthy dinner schedule for the week.
Don't get me wrong, it was a fun weekend considering the cupcakes came with birthday parties and friends galore. But definitely felt like a whirlwind! Writing this post right now at the beginning of a new week feels very much like when you first step foot on ground to stop the spinning. You know that feeling, right?

Cupcakes, Champagne & Bloggers ...

The drink, candles, pretty flowers, great cupcakes and an absolutely beautiful home round out a great evening spent last night at the Rikshaw Design trunk show. The wonderful Melissa was kind enough to open up her house for the event and let me tell you, you could see the ocean through her house before even stepping foot inside! And the renovation and design she did on the house was superb. Nancy Meyers are you listening? I think I found the set of your next film and the perfect kurtas for Diane or Meryl:)

It might've been a trunk show but it was also an impromptu blogger get-together. It was so, so great to put the actual person with the blog. Everyone was so funny, warm and just so easy to chat and laugh with. Alexis, Grace, Melissa, Alexandra, Heather, Kendall, Bianca, and Catherine I look forward to the next time!

Hope everyone has a great weekend! And don't forget to check out Catherine's coverage in the new issue of Lonny (p. 25). Group hug:)

Dream Kitchen ...

Stopped in my tracks when I saw this kitchen in the newest Lonny. From beautiful beamed ceiling to pretty hardwood floors and natural lighting, everything is perfect. Including the owl.
Photos: Lonny (p. 178-179)

Wedding Circle ...

Love this idea of getting married in an art gallery literally surrounded by your family and friends. Fun for the couple, fun for the guests.

Candid Boho ...

There's so much I love about this photo. The flowers wrapped in kraft paper are so simple and pretty. I love the coffee cups on the table (my favorite accessory). And of course her boho style is so great. And to be perfectly honest, I don't care for the bottoms–but totally acceptable here. I love candids because you somehow feel like you're right there with the subject. In this case, sitting across from this girl and that second Tate coffee cup is mine:)

Easy, Breezy Style ...

This is what I would refer to as "easy, breezy" style. So cute and comfortable. I love deep v-necks so much but haven't been able to wear them as much lately because they're not really conducive to bending over all the time to pick up my one year old without giving a peep show. I love how her blazer steps the outfit up a notch too.

Little Stripes ...

I mean really. Where do I begin? These images are all sorts of adorable. This is one of the cutest kids lines I've seen in a bit. I always get so excited when I find a new-to-me brand like Wovenplay out of NYC. How cute are these lace print socks and tights?! And that flight cap ... I would've slept with it and shown up to the breakfast table with it on still:)

Otto & His Wallpaper ...

This is 8 year old Otto. He likes to draw and has two wallpaper designs. This one is called "ohoy." I love how the illustrations basically look like your own child did them– so charming. He has another that is just as cool called "mountain." Otto also likes to drum, enjoys doing karate with his buddy Konrad and has a rat named Lilly. Naturally.

Cute Shirtdress ... Check!

Makes me want to get a shirtdress pronto. Thought I'd try buying a men's one at Macy's or something and belt it, but I think the shoulder area might be too disproportioned on me. Most of you could fix that, but I can't sew to save my life. Plus, I like how this one gathers a bit and dips in the front. Too cute with her swept up hair and glasses. Oh and her name is Lucy. Suits her and the cute outfit, doesn't it?

Weekend (and morning) Re-Cap ...

So we finally saw Up Friday night for family movie night. We broke out the bean bags and large pillows for everyone to lounge in the living room with our PJ's. P thinks this is the best especially when the cookies come out. K thinks it's time to crawl over everyone like a human obstacle course. It was comical watching both of them! And such a cute film if you haven't seen it already.
Saturday was spent running errands, nothing special. But Sunday however, was my day! I had a facial for the first time in what seems like forever! It was amazing–I felt like a girl again:) The ambiance and atmosphere over at Bergamot Spa was so great. I cannot wait to go back and start making these things more of a habit (wishful thinking?).
And then Sunday evening rolled around ... we were so excited to watch the Laker game only to see them lose game 2 of the NBA finals. It was an emotional rollercoaster! The score kept going back and forth and then having to watch Kobe play with five fouls early in the game (six and you get ejected from the game) was like watching him play with one hand tied behind his back.

And then Monday morning rolled around ... I went to post this morning as I usually do every morning around 6:30 am and no blogger access. I kept watching my fellow San Diego bloggers able to publish new posts for the day, but I couldn't! It was like that scene in Pee Wee's Big Adventure where everyone had a bike but him. Apparently I was part of the "isolated access issues in certain US regions." Lucky me. However, I will not dwell. I've a feeling this week will be a good one. Optimism shall prevail!:)
